from: LE MANS MOTORSPORT Diaphragm Dump Valves are suitable for all cars where an airflow meter is not utilised before the turbo - as the air flow is controlled before the turbo and installing a dump valve upsets the volume of air reaching the engine, causing stalling at idle. Loose piepwork is also a major problem that causes stalling at idle. Where an airflow meter is used it is essential for ease of operation to use a twin piston type Dump Valve as they work straight out of the box. All Le Mans Piston DVs are suitable. The noisiest dump valve is always the diaphragm type, as there is only one operating system. If you wish to fit a diaphragm type to a vehicle model for which it is not recommended, then it is suggested that an Extra Strong Spring (ref: LMA 231) is purchased to replace the standard type fitted to all diaphragm DVs. This has the effect of holding the diaphragm closed at idle. However, the engine will need fine tuning to make the DV work correctly.
